4월 18일 GMU에서 열린 "Voice as a Bridge: Multicultural Poems and Songs"라는 행사에서 우리 문인회원 임정현 (Chong McDermott)가 낭송한 시입니다:
The Net
Chong McDermott
Countless gazes
settle
on screens.
Colorful square dots, pixels,
tightly clustering,
unfold a world of fleeting scenes.
Drinking electricity,
scenes flicker and fade in waves.
Stories and melodies surge and recede,
Like grains of sand,
Memories wash away
A face meeting my gaze, drawing nearer,
flattens like a screen.
Stretched, trimmed, filtered images
woven of light and sound
grab the gaze.
Though gazes caught in the net
are sleepless,
the time
to listen to the soft murmurs
of the moon and stars
to breathe in fresh wind,
to soothe slumped shoulders,
through the mesh,
slipped

임정현
무수한 시선이
화면에
멈춘다.
색색의 정사각형 점, 픽셀이,
빽빽이 모여
순간의 세계를 펼친다.
장면들이 전기를 마시며
연달아 깜빡인다.
이야기와 멜로디가 밀려오고 밀려가고
모래알 처럼
기억이 쓸려간다.
눈을 맞추며
가까이 다가오는 얼굴이
화면처럼 납작해진다.
늘리고 잘리고 필터링된 모습들이
빛과 소리의 그물을 엮어
시선을 붙잡는다.
그물에 걸린 시선들은 잠들지 못하고
달과 별의 속살거림을 듣거나
바람의 냄새를 맡거나
지친 어깨를 다독여 줄
시간이
그물 사이로
빠져 나갔다.
